The Kathmandu Resort Hotel is
located in the western part of Thamel, an area we have not been before. We were quite surprised to see that this place has much better looking shops and buildings and more tourists. However the small roads are still chaotic and congested with cars, motorbikes, trickshaws and people.
We moved to Vaishali Hotel (photos) today for our final night in Kathmandu. Vaishali is one of the proper hotels here with large lobby and its own yard. However it does need some upgrading to keep pace with other newer and more modern hotels.
The average hotel rate in Kathmandu ranges from US$30 to $60 for double room. Obviously those like Radisson are much more expensive.
In the afternoon we went around to tour the Thamel area again. At one point we came across a mosque, possibly one of the few in Kathmandu. The worship place is quite small but seemed to be well used. I was told there are about 30,000 Muslims in Kathmandu.
